Traveling in a down economy

by Kelly on August 17, 2010

It seems these days that nearly every travel company and airline is grinding their teeth in anxiety, watching the ebb and flow of the economy, and hoping that things will get better.

It started with ridiculous baggage charges and fees for food that was once free.

And now, as KISS Flights travel company in the UK has adds their name to the long list of collapsed companies,  it has extended in to the downfall of agencies… which leads to overcrowded flights, stranded passengers and frustrated airport employees.

There have long been rumours that employees of large airlines such as American and United will soon strike.

And we, the travelers have been left to pick up the pieces.

So how can we continue to travel amidst what seems an endlessly rising wave of frustration and cost? How many of you out there have had your flights disrupted, re-routed or inconvenienced because of the hard times we are living in?

And why can’t anything be done to turn the tide? I’d like to think that if more of us travel, things will start to get better and eventually, prices will become cheaper. But I’m just not sure that’s true. What do you think? Is there anything we can do?
