Last week we found ourselves in a very bizarre Buddhist theme park/ temple called Wat Muang in the small city of Ang Thong, Thailand.
I can’t really explain it, so I’ll let the images do the talking. Apparently they are supposed to represent the conflict between the Thai and Burmese. They’re so bizarre!
Not exactly the Thailand you always see, right??
Yeesh.
Mommy?
Ouch.
And then, I’m speechless.
And then, at the end, sat this gorgeous, giant Buddha.
Crazy, right??

Not exactly kiddie friendly, is it?
Amazing photos! There’s plenty of weird ones in Vietnam too. Abandoned as well, which makes them all the more eerie.
Wow, that’s just…just…I give up. I’m speechless.
What a find. Bizarre to say the least. Are the people who created it for real?
How did you find this little gem? I imagine walking around was a bit surreal?
wtf??? who is this theme park aimed towards? WEIRD.
I totally get it! 😉
Oh my! So much for the sweet Thais! If you’re still there I would highly recommend a book of Thai Fables called “Tales from the Land of Smiles.” I was shocked by a lot of the not so happy endings which my Thai friends said they read to their children. It really shows you a different side of Thai culture – much like the place you have described.
That’s awesome. Reminds me a lot of the Christian Theme park just outside of Buenos Aires.
Wow, that’s really freaky…
Funny you should ask– we were taken to Ang Thong by a friend who was setting us up with a ride up north. While we were waiting for the ride, that friend asked another friend to take us, and he picked us up via motorbike and dropped us off here. Can you imagine the surprise???
I KNOW! Crazy, right??
Yeesh, this was scary enough with people there, can’t imagine it abandoned!
Haha. Not unless you’re a super creepy, blood-loving kiddie I suppose!
Apparently! It’s everywhere too, this is not a small park. These statues go on for rows and rows. Who funded this? The government? Craaazy.
I’d say awe-struck tourists like me, but all the descriptions of these statues are in Thai. And, this park isn’t exactly anywhere on the tourist trail (nor is Ang Thong) AND to make it even weirder, there are temples set up throughout it. It’s like, gorgeous temples, buddhas and BAM! Savage killing. So strange!
hahahah awesome!
Thanks Laurel I’ll check it out! The thais seem to love this sort of story.. and ghosts. They freakin’ loooove ghosts.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” is right! Wow… I’m beyond words!
Those emaciated mannequins got what they deserved if you ask me… 🙂
Oh, this was very gruesome! I think this ranks as one of the most strangest things I’ve seen.
Love, love, love. Must go.
Oh my word… some of those are quite ghastly! Not exactly your typical theme park…..
I just…umm….don’t quite know what to say.
Remind me not to do battle with any Thai or Burmese.
Those are wacky images! How have I never heard of this…crazyness…. Can’t say I exactly want to go there, but it would be intriguing to see 🙂
what??? I would love to see this! 😉
This is actually a depiction of Buddhist hell. That was no battle, simply sinners being tortured. Buddhists who sin more than they do good go to hell, and each way of torture depends on the type of sin you have committed.
