Las Vegas on a Budget: 6 Ways to Save

I’ll admit: I’ve been to Vegas several times, but I’ve never really loved it all that much. Until this recent trip, when I figured out some things about Vegas that have really helped to make the experience more affordable and fun. Interested? Here is a great list of the best hotels in Vegas.

1. Don’t Play Slot Machines: Sure, it’s fun to hit the button and watch the lights on a slot machine, but they are a waste of money. I kind of became obsessed with gambling this week and did a bunch of research on gambling–and all experts agree: slot machines are a rip off!

2. Do Buy a 24-hr Buffet Pass: On average, most Vegas buffets are about $30 (but they’re so fun!). You can save yourself some money by purchasing a 24-hr pass for $49.99 (or $44.99 if you have a player’s card) and you’ll be able to get into six buffets, including Rio, Tropicana, Planet Holleywood, Ballys, Paris and more. Prepare to stuff your face, all day and night.

3. Like to drink? Buy a $12.99 bottomless pass at a buffet: You’ve got your buffet pass, now get your drink on. Bottomless beer, bloody marys or mimosas make this a great deal. My friends and I actually sat in a buffet for 6 hrs yesterday, eating and drinking. We got a great value– and we watched it change from lunch to dinner!

4. Check out the Spa at Mandalay Bay: If you’re staying here (and I highly recommend it) pay $25 for an all day pass at the spa. There are three hot tubs of different temperatures, a eucalyptus steam room, a sauna, little cucumbers for your eyes, snacks and free drinks. It’s an awesome way to relax with your friends.

5. Search Vegas.com for Room Deals: Vegas is stacked with hotels and it can be kind of hard trying to figure out where to get great deals. LivingSocial.com and Vegas.com have never let me down. On Vegas.com we got a suite in Mandalay Bay for $60 per night, PLUS a $60 food credit. And at LivingSocial, we scored a room at the Stratosphere for $40, plus a $50 spa voucher.

6. Avoid Taxis: They’re crazy expensive here. Ride the monorail for $3 or $12 for an all day pass, walk the Strip (it’s 4 miles) or take the bus for $2, or $7 for 24-hrs.

There you have it kids. Vegas can be affordable, and fun. One more tip: when you’ve doubled your money gambling, walk away!! I learned the hard way.
