Exploring the Islands of Loreto, Mexico

by Kelly on June 18, 2013

I freaking love Mexico. LOVE it. And my last trip to Mexico just reaffirmed all of this for me.

Why, you ask?

In five short days, I got to:

– Try paddleboarding
– Visit the ancient San Javier Mission
– Lounge on gorgeous deserted beaches
– Eat nachos by the pool
– Cook fresh-caught clams that I bought for $1
– Work on my tan
– Practice espanol
– Snorkel in some gorgeous locations
… oh, and SWIM in the OPEN OCEAN with DOLPHINS and a WHALE.

A whale! I could hear the dolphins talking under the water!

It was amazing, it was terrifying. It was awesome.

Now, this wasn’t my typical backpacker vacation. I was staying at Villa del Palmar Loreto, a five-star resort which was absolutely gorgeous and left me virtually stress-free. We had a kitchen in our room that allowed us to cook, but other than that, we took full advantage of the hotel’s gorgeous pools and beach and I was asleep by 11 p.m. almost every night.

At first I thought the seclusion of everything would bore me. Boy, was I wrong.

I got used to looking at the stars, from my hammock by the water. I wrote a lot. I thought even more. I came back rejuvenated, ready to tackle the hustle and bustle of my New York life. (Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you I moved to New York!).

If you have the chance to visit the islands of Loreto, GO. The resort is always offering specials that include free flights, that you can find by following their Facebook and Twitter accounts (@VillaDelPalmarL).

It’s such a gorgeous place, and hasn’t yet been fully discovered by tourists. Hurry before everyone finds out about this paradise!

Have you ever been to Mexico?
