7 Links of Awesomeness

by Kelly on July 11, 2011

Travel Bug Juice has been around for a while now. Almost two years, in fact, and though I have some blogger’s guilt about not posting as consistently as I would like to as of late, a new project inspired me to dig back in.

The team at No Vacation Required (who rock, btw) have started something called the “7 Links Project” where some of us bloggers dig deep into our WordPress banks to find posts of days past that could use some new light. I was nominated by Laura at Go Mexico Guide– read on to see who I nominate!

1. My Most Beautiful Post

8 Things I Love About Life In Hawaii

Lordy, lordy, is it ever hard choosing between your blog babies to declare one the most beautiful. Because I’m extremely proud of where I came from, because I love Hawaii (who doesn’t?), and because I love any excuse to look at pretty photos of blue water, I dub this baby the prettiest of them all.

2. My Most Popular Post

P1060984

Working Abroad in New Zealand

I’ve found that my more standard, this-is-how-you-travel pieces always get a lot of traffic. New Zealand is amazing–go get yourself a working holiday visa!

3. My Most Controversial Post

What’s Up, Baby Butts? The Chinese Split Pants Phenomenon

I’m not one for massive amounts of controversy, but I did manage to drum up some criticizing comments with this one. I still stand by my assessment that this is one of the strangest practices of potty-training in the entire world.

4. My Most Helpful Post

How Not to Poo Your Pantalones

Why? Well, because bus rides can be very, very long.

5. A Post Whose Success Surprised Me

#286 McDonald's Big Classic Cheese
The Great American Shame

This post, written originally out of shame at eating McDonalds while abroad, inevitably formed a discussion on what it’s like to travel as an American, and how many people are ashamed of the countries they’re from. (Some American travelers even lie and say they’re Canadian–I’ve seen it!)

6. A Post I Feel Didn’t Get Enough Love

Conversation Repellent

The Music of New Zealand

New Zealand has some seriously awesome music coming out of it. I mean, like whoa. Check out these NZ bands.

7. The Post That I Am Most Proud Of

The Sun Goes Down

Overcoming a Rough Past

Of all the things I’ve written here over the year, I’d have to say this piece about overcoming a really rough past was the hardest and most personally rewarding for me. In sharing my stories, I was able to learn a lot about others through comments and felt an overwhelming amount of support and love.

Who’s Next??

My nominations go to these awesome bloggers (because I want more!!)

1. Camels and Chocolate

2. Ordinary Traveler

3. World Travel For Couples

4. Dropout Diaries

5. The World’s Waiting

GO!

Wow, that was quick! Love the photo of the baby in China and I can’t wait to check out some of your links. As far as I know, the project was actually started by Katie at Tripbase, not the NVR guys, although they did nominate me to participate and they definitely are awesome! 😉

Ahh! Noted! Kudos given to the correct peeps now! What is it with baby butts? People freakin love them.

Before I can even get to thank you….. Mark – NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Just no, ok?

Thank you for the nomination, Kelly, I’m blown away! In such great company, too. Thanks a bunch!

I’ll be honest and say there are definitely things about being an American I am ashamed of. I don’t like our reputation overseas and believe many Americans are ignorant and self-absorbed. I am that way sometimes as well but I feel that travel breaks me out of that a little.

And split pants to potty train? Weird and just don’t agree with it.

Grace July 14, 2011 at 3:23 pm

The split pants was hilarious. However, I really was touched by the overcoming a rough past post- I had a rough past too.
